What chemicals are in sunscreen?

Many people like summer. When they think of summer, they think of a series of beautiful things such as beaches, ocean waves, delicious ice cream, watermelon in air-conditioned rooms and so on. Children can play in the water as much as possible outdoors, and girls can also wear beautiful skirts.

However, the ultraviolet rays in the summer sun are relatively strong, and will unscrupulously penetrate the clouds and irradiate the skin, which can easily make the skin tan, and the delicate skin of children is also easy to sunburn. Therefore, sun protection is an indispensable homework in our summer.

On the one hand, sun protection is to avoid the sun, you can use parasols, sun hats, sun protection clothing, etc., and the other is to use sunscreen. Sunscreen refers to cosmetics that are added with sunscreen agents that can block and absorb ultraviolet rays to prevent and treat the skin from tanning and sunburn.

Ultraviolet rays are classified into short-wave ultraviolet (UVC), medium-wave ultraviolet (UVB) and long-wave ultraviolet (UVA) according to different wavelengths and penetrability. Sunscreen is mainly to block UVB and UVA to keep the skin white and delay the appearance of spots and wrinkles on the skin. The sun protection factor SPF on the sunscreen is the skin’s tanning defense value, and PA is the skin’s tanning defense value.

Sunscreens are divided into physical sunscreens and chemical sunscreens in terms of ingredients.

The main ingredients of physical sunscreen are zinc oxide and titanium dioxide, which can achieve sun protection by reflecting ultraviolet rays and avoiding ultraviolet rays from acting on the skin. The advantage is that the skin is less irritating and relatively safe; the disadvantage is that it is a white powder, so it is generally rubbed on the skin. It’s white and greasy when it’s on.

Chemical sunscreens achieve sun protection effects mainly by absorbing ultraviolet rays and reducing the effect of ultraviolet rays on the skin. The advantage is that the molecular weight is small and does not cause white and greasy feeling. The disadvantage is that it will cause skin irritation and allergic reaction, which is more irritating. Common chemical sunscreen ingredients include benzophenone and ethylhexyl salicylate.

Many people are obsessed with buying physical sunscreens and feel that they are less harmful to the skin, but the sunscreens that we can buy on the market are generally sunscreens that contain a combination of physical and chemical sunscreens. So if it’s not sensitive skin, don’t be too obsessed with ingredients.
