SINOCURE®CAT-550 is a hybrid photoinitiator containing free radical and cationic dual initiator groups developed by Sinocure Chemical Group. Since this type of photoinitiator can undergo both free radical photoinitiation polymerization and cationic photoinitiation polymerization, it is particularly effective in free radical-cationic hybrid photocuring systems. The performance is equivalent to Omnicat 550.
However, since the free radical structure in SINOCURE CAT-550 is 2-ITX (2-Isopropylthioxanthen-9-one), during the use of food contact materials, the residual photoinitiator may migrate into food through contact and other means, causing potential harm to human health. Toxicological studies have shown that ITX, as a fat-soluble compound, can affect the movement and hardness of cell membranes through strong interactions with the cell phospholipid layer, and may affect endocrine hormones in the human body. Therefore, many countries have not allowed this structure to be used in food-related photocuring systems.
This year, we introduced the DETX structure to replace the 2-ITX structure in the original SINOCURE CAT-550. SINOCURE DETX and its photolysis products are non-toxic and will not cause environmental pollution. They meet environmental protection requirements and can be used for food-related packaging. We named it SINOCURE CAT-551.
